The Importance of Not Being Arcovazzi

Some 500 African migrants and Italians protested in downtown Florence, Italy on Tuesday, chanting “no more racism” and criticizing the anti-migrant Northern League party for incitement to racial hatred after an Italian man shot dead a Senegalese street vendor, Idy Diène, 54, on Ponte Amerigo Vespucci in central Florence (near the U.S. Consulate General) earlier Monday.
It’s not the first time that African vendors get targeted for shooting in Florence. Six years ago, an Italian right-wing extremist shot dead two street vendors and wounded three others in a racist raid.
