Anna Olehivna Muzychuk and Mariya Olehivna Muzychuk will not play the 6th World Women’s Team Chess Championship to be held in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia from 17 to 26 June 2017. Their absence – for which no reason has been given – does not seem coincidental, since both Chinese and Indian teams also will count noticeable defections on its first boards such as 侯逸凡 (Hóu Yìfán) and Humpy Koneru.
The Ukrainian men’s team gave a liturgical sign of celebration as well, since Pavel Eljanov and Vassily Mykhaylovych Ivanchuk decided to not participate at the 11th World Team Chess Championship. Chucky instead will join the ČEZ Chess Trophy Festival in Prague, Czech Republic where – from 15 to 18 June – he’s gonna play a 12-game rapid exhibition match with David Navara. |
