On January 11, the World Chess Federation published the list of participants of the Women’s World Chess Championship Knockout Tournament 2017.


Seven Chinese players will participate in the 64-Player Knockout: 居文君 (Jū Wénjūn), 赵雪 (Zhào Xuě), 沈阳 (Shěn Yáng), 谭中怡 (Tán Zhōngyí), 翟墨 (Dí Mò), 倪诗群 (Ní Shīqún), and 黄茜 (Huáng Qiàn).

The Women’s World Chess Championship is still a knockout tournament format. It will be held in Tehran, Iran from 10 February to 5 March 2017. The winner will become the Women’s World Chess Champion.

It’s worth mentioning that there is a separate list of remarkable absentees from the Women’s World Chess Championship Knockout Tournament, including the current Women’s World Chess Champion 侯逸凡 (Hóu Yìfán) from China and the former Women’s World Chess Champion Mariya Muzychuk from Ukraine. In addition, the former Challenger Humpy Koneru from India, Alisa Mikhailovna Galliamova and Tatiana Anatolyevna Kosintseva from Russia, Nazí Nodarovna Paikidze and Irina Borisivna Krush from the United States refused to participate. Both Krush and Paikidze refused to comply with the mandatory Iranian dress code.
